Terms of use
The agreement between you and the provider of Akin.

You accept these terms when you join. How Akin handles your data is in the privacy policy.
Who provides Akin
Akin is provided by Mathieu Urstein, an individual in Lausanne, Switzerland, who runs it alone (“we”). The contact page says how to reach us.
Akin is free, for adults, in Switzerland. Akin is an AI built on Claude, by Anthropic, as Meet Akin tells you before its first chat: it learns who you want to talk with, finds someone who wants the same conversation, and opens a one-to-one chat once you both say yes.
Your account
- You must be 18 or over, and give your real date of birth and first name.
- The account is yours alone: don’t share it, sell it or use someone else’s.
- What you write in a request or an offer must be true and your own.
What Akin is for
Akin is for one conversation two people both want. It is not for dating, hiring, selling, fundraising, investment, regulated advice such as medical, legal or financial advice, or vague networking. Akin refuses requests in those lanes, and any request that is illegal or unsafe.
In chats with other people, don’t threaten, harass or deceive anyone, send sexual content, ask for money, involve anyone under 18, or share anything illegal or someone else’s private details.
How moderation works
Automated checks can refuse a request, an offer or a photo and block a message, as described below, and telling Akin you are under 18 pauses your matching until a person looks, as a “Seems underage” report does. Such a pause isn’t a decision. Every other action, and every action against someone’s account, is taken by a person: the provider.
Requests and offers
Before Akin sends a request or an offer, Claude checks it and allows it, holds it for review or refuses it. One held for review is sent only once a person approves it. A refused one is never sent.
Photos
Claude checks each photo before anyone sees it. A refused photo is never shown.
Messages
You agree that an automated check reads every message between people, for everyone’s safety. It blocks only clear cases, such as threats, sexual content or anything involving minors, before the other person sees them. It also flags likely scams to a person without blocking them, and never bans anyone on its own. A message about harming yourself isn’t blocked, and you get a reply asking you to reach help now. When the check can’t read a message, it holds it back and shows you that reply too, and a person looks at it within about an hour while the provider is awake, then delivers it or keeps it blocked.
Reports and blocks
You can leave, block or report someone from the chat’s menu at any time.
- A block ends the chat, and Akin never matches you again.
- A report also blocks, confirms that it arrived, and keeps the messages it concerns as evidence.
- A person reviews each report: one about threats, a child’s safety or self-harm within about an hour while the provider is awake, and the rest within 24 hours. If those times can’t be kept, Akin pauses matching for everyone.
- “Seems underage” ends the chat and pauses that person’s matching.
- Once a person has decided, Akin tells you in its chat whether your report was acted on, though not how, and how to contest that, naming the day you reported.
Actions
Depending on what happened, a person may remove a message or a photo, refuse a request or an offer, end a chat, pause someone’s matching, or ban their account until a person lifts the ban. A threat to someone’s life or safety may be reported to the police.
Reasons and appeals
Each action comes with its reasons: what was decided, why, under which rule, and whether automated checks were involved. A ban or a refused request comes by email to the address you signed in with, and a blocked message or a refused photo says why in the app. You can contest it within six months by replying to that message or writing to support@akin.social, and a person looks at it again. You can also go to court (see Law and courts).
What you write
What you write stays yours. You allow us to store it, process it with the companies in the privacy policy, and show it to the people you chose, only to run Akin.
Ending
You can delete your account under You in the app at any time. We may ban an account that breaks these terms, as described above, and may stop Akin, telling you in the app beforehand.
Liability
Akin is free and provided as it is. We do our best to keep it working and safe, but can’t promise it always works or that someone fits your request. We aren’t responsible for what other people write or do, and our liability is limited as far as the law allows, never for intent or gross negligence.
Changes to these terms
We tell you in the app before a change applies. If you don’t accept it, you can delete your account.
Law and courts
Swiss law applies to these terms, and the courts of Lausanne are competent. This takes away none of the protections your own country’s law gives you as a consumer, including going to court where you live.
